Citizens Of Humanity
About the Brand
In 2003, Jerome Dahan poured all of his passion, creativity, and 25 years of experience into founding his own denim brand, Citizens of Humanity. With denim made in a "full vertical facility," the company controls every part of the manufacturing process, from supplying raw materials to distributing the finished product to retailers. This allows the company to better ensure the quality of its clothing.
Citizens of Humanity was the first to take luxury denim global, and today the brand sells in 35 countries around the world. You can find Citizens of Humanity jeans in high-end department stores like Nordstrom, several online shops, and boutiques such as 10 Corso Como, Anthropologie, Aritzia, Brown's, Club Monaco, and Joseph.
Jerome Dahan designed his first pair of jeans in Montreal in the '70s, but his career truly took off in the '80s when he moved to Los Angeles. Prior to founding Citizens of Humanity, he held design and brand-building positions at companies like Guess and Lucky Brand. He also helped establish 7 For All Mankind, which introduced the luxury denim concept to the U.S. Citizens of Humanity, he claims, "is the ultimate expression and realization of what a denim company can be"—and if anyone is in the position to make such a bold statement, it's Dahan.
Who It's Made For
Citizens of Humanity offers such a wide range of styles that it's hard to imagine someone who wouldn't love at least one of its designs. Skinny jeans in understated colors like rose quartz and pistachio fit easily into office settings, or you can wear some of the wide-leg styles in colors like garnet and black forest to make a bolder statement. Those who love to bare some skin will find Citizens of Humanity shorts irresistible, and trendsetters will love the denim flight suits, jeans with shadow side seams, and embroidered pieces.
The company releases new collections every season. Some are throwbacks, built on nostalgia and tradition, while others are brand-new designs, and each style comes in a variety of washes, colors, and treatments. Citizens of Humanity skirts, for instance, include everything from white mini skirts to nearly ankle-length flounce skirts with asymmetrical hems.
